I finally took some pictures of two CP batches that have been out of the mold for about 4 weeks. They are both a great example of how FO (Fragrance Oils) can change the color of your soap. Both started out a lovely cream color and now by week 4 they look like this:
This one is Chai Tea FO and is turning a great medium brown color. This batch is for Bramble Berry’s soap swap. It smells wonderful and I love that I didn’t have to mess with the color. It is just doing its own thing.
The other example is Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey FO. This one is a great light brown color. It’s another great no mess way to color your soap. I love the earthiness of this soap and the FO.
So why did they change? They both have vanilla in their scent. This causes discoloration in most soaps. So the moral to the tale is that if you do not want it to change on you either choose an FO without vanilla or you could try a vanilla stabalizer (though these will only hold the change off for awhile).
